The 2025 Jim Matthews Awards - Winner
At the September 2025 Master Brick and Blocklaying Conference, CF King Contracting were proud receivers of the Silver Award and winner of the Light Commercial Section of the Jim Matthews Awards 2025 for their submission of the 6 Carr Road, Mt Roskill , Auckland project.
The brick veneer was constructed on two panels to the front exterior of the building, using Roman style bricks all laid in vertical stack bond. The architect wanted a rustic looking area for these living walls, so selected the Verona brick which has rumbled edges. With climbing plants growing over these walls the finished appearance gives it a contrasting look.

The brick veneer was mainly to the exterior of the house but also had an internal feature for a planter. The entrance wall was curved and due to the specific shape, the bricks were cut to length with a gradual increase as the curve approached the entry door. The internal planter also had curved brickwork to match.

This building was one of the first to utilize shipping containers, prefabricated interiors completed and erected in place to form the structure. The cladding systems were designed around this and in particular the brick veneer was installed to enhance the buildings look and make the end product look like a normally constructed apartment building.
